The Mernda Park Athletics Team took to the track on Wednesday 29th August with a great sense of pride. We had 25 students representing the school in different track and field events, that they had been learning and training for in Term 3. This group of students competed against the schools from within the Bridge Inn District. Every student finished their events with great success, with some walking away with a top 4 finish. Olivia Sooden, came an amazing 1st place in Triple Jump and will compete in the Whittlesea/Woodlands Division event on Monday 10th September. All students should be extremely proud of their achievements, as this was the inaugural District Carnival in Mernda Park Primary School history. Brilliant job Mernda Park!
This week at MPPS, students have been putting their lab coats on to learn about Sports Science. Students from Grades 2-6 learnt about left or right hand dominance and students from Grades Prep-1 learnt about energy transfer in different sporting equipment. The children tested out these experiments within their PE lessons and walked away with a small taste of Sports Science and a different avenue in learning from their Physical Education program.
What an amazing morning! The sun was shining and we had a brilliant support crew of parents, families and friends from our school community come to enjoy our athletics event. Every student from Mernda Park Primary attended the Athletics morning with a great level of energy. Students competed in six events: 100m sprint, Shuttle relay, Discus, Shot put, Long and Triple Jump. These events were modified for our Prep- Grade 2's. All students had a fantastic morning performing and competing at their individual best in their events. Selected students from Grades 3-6 will progress through to the Bridge Inn District Athletics on Wednesday the 29th of August at Meadowglen International Athletics Track.
Last Friday the 27th of July saw 21 Mernda Park students represent their school at their first Hooptime event for the Bridge Inn District. We created three teams, one Future Stars and two Rookies teams for those who are still learning the game. Our Future Stars team went undefeated in their preliminary rounds and unfortunately lost in their semi final. They were gracious in defeat and humble in victory. Their efforts were courageous and their teamwork impeccable. Our Rookie teams also did our school very proud. They ran, jumped, defended and attacked every game with a great amount of determination and energy. The Rookies managed to come away with a few wins for the day and also developed their skills in the game of basketball. Lisa, Natalie and myself could not speak higher of these children that represented MPPS on the day with a great sense of pride, spirit and enthusiasm to do their best!
