Jane Burn from CERES came to our school and worked with the students to conduct a Biodivesity Audit around our school grounds. The students were divided into 8 groups and went off with their clipboards, magnifying glasses, specimen jars, binoculars, maps and audit sheets to collect their data.
The audits were based on – 1. Tree measurements
2. Understorey structure
3. Environmental weeds
4. Organic litter
5. Logs, rocks and soil management
6. Habitat extras
The students were very excited to explore their daytime habitat and find and discuss all the living creatures that call it home. During term 3 we will be involved in an in-depth investigation of Simon Creek with the help of the Darebin Creek Management Committee.
