In term 2, we were able to plant some yummy vegetables in MPPS's veggie garden. This related brilliantly to our Integrated Studies unit which focused on sustainability. We were able to integrate our knowledge we gained to become successful 'green thumbs.' Take a look at our garden now! During Term 3 CLC enjoyed reading ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing’. One of our reading responses asked students to create their own advertisement about a product of their choice. We are so proud of the wonderful results they produced. Go team CLC!
What a great day! Have a look at the fun and learning that was had by all on our excursion to CERES. Our visit to CERES was the culmination of a term of learning about Sustainability – CERES is an environmental education centre, community garden and urban farm that runs along the Merri Creek. We created a hotel for minibeasts that we brought back to Mernda Park, played games to show how loss of habitat can impact animal life and explored vegetation and animal life around the Merri Creek. Our Carome kids made us proud by sharing their extensive knowledge on this topic and amazing behaviour when they were out in the public. Great work CLC. On Wednesday the 28th of April, the CLC students shared their projects from our Term 1 Mappen. There was an amazing buzz as students shared their hard work with their peers. Students explained what they made, how they made it and what they learned during the process. The Grade 3s looked at First Contact between Aboriginal and European Settlers. We studied the different history, artefacts and cultural aspects such as games, food and languages. Students then worked in groups to research and create an artefact model. Grade 2s Term 1 focus was all about what services are available in their community. They were able to identify their services, navigate a map and know who can help them in an emergency. With this knowledge, in groups, they became architects- designed their very own precinct and then built a mini version of their precinct within their groups. Once they were completed they were able to share their workings with other members of CLC. Here are some photos of the Year 2s creating their projects! See below for some photos for the expo in action!
During Term 2 our unit of study is called The Blue Marble. We will be learning about sustainability and conservation. Here are some of the links in blue that we have looked at to begin our studies. This is one of the most influential photos taken 24/12/1968 on the Apollo 8 mission. Earth Rise Video- This video explains how the Earth Rise photo was taken. This photo is called the Blue Marble, taken on 2/12/1972 on the Apollo 17 Mission, on their way to the moon.
Pale Blue Dot- 14/2/1990, Voyager 1 Space probe. 6 Billion kilometers from Earth. World Population- Watch this video, how does it make you feel? The students loved this and couldn’t believe how the world continues to change! World Population History- You can explore the history of the world’s population. In Maths, we have been using hands on materials to extend our knowledge on Place Value. Have a look at our number lines!
Throughout term 1 CLC students are learning different things about our world.
Grade 2s will be learning all about our community- even having a special guest speaker! Grade 3s will be learning all about the first contact here in Australia. Learning the struggles everyone faced. Keep an eye out on our blog to see what we've been up to in Integrated Studies. Pictures below are grade 2s putting into practice persistence. Learning about what happens when we persist at something. Grade 3s were being shipped off! A ship was drawn on the basketball court to see how small boats were made, they had to fit ever grade 3 student. This term in Carome Learning Community, we will be doing Maths rotations on Mondays and Fridays. During these sessions students will participate in small group, hands on maths activities to practise and consolidate their knowledge of Place Value. |
