Welcome back. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Our Nature theme for Term 1 was wonderful and the students embraced it with great creativity.
Our theme for Term Two is: CULTURE.
We will explore different expressions of culture from around the world and create our own interpretations. Some examples include: Navajo weaving, Maasai Beaded jewellery and God's eyes from Mexico.
Below is the timetable for Visual Arts this term.

After reading the picture book 'They Say Blue' by Jillian Tamaki, the SLC students worked in small groups to create a tree representing one of the four seasons. We talked about the colours we associate with each season. The students demonstrated their CARE values by collaborating beautifully.

We started the term looking at the MPPS CARE values of;Collaboration, Achievement, Responsibility and Empathy. We examined what these values look like in Visual Arts and displayed it all on our 'CARE Wall'. These values were implemented in the first artwork of the year in which we explored painting using materials other than paint brushes.
PLC & SLC -  Fingerprint Creatures: We started by creating a background using a screwed up piece of newspaper to apply the paint. We then used our fingers to apply dots to our backgrounds. Once this was done, we used a black fineliner to add wings, legs and antennae to our dots to turn them into creatures.
CLC - Edge Printing: We started by creating a background using a sponge to apply the paint. We then created a native Australian animal or flower using the edge of a piece of cardboard to print with.
YYLC - Foam Etching: First we sketched our nature themed designs in our workbooks. We then etched the design into printing foam. Finally we used metallic paint on black paper to stamp our designs.

It is so wonderful to see  the students smiling faces again. We are all ready to have a great year. This year we will have a theme for each term  in Visual Arts. The theme for Term 1 is NATURE.  All the artwork this term will connect to this theme.
Some highlights will include:

• The creation of our Harmony Day project to be displayed in the School Office - This is  project in which every student contributes a piece
• Submission of artworks in the Arts on the Northern Edge Community Festival which will take place on 25 &26 March at Plenty Ranges Performing Arts Centre
