In YYLC, we have been learning all about KINDNESS.
We have learned what it is and how we can show it. Take a look at our Field of Kindness, where we have described kindness and shared ideas about how to be kind. Boys Basketball
The game today was like an NBA game. It was so fun to play against Ashley Park because we got to meet new people and see a different school. The game was so fun I lost track of the score.Today I scored 2 baskets. We were passing and playing very well and we got a proud result. Ashley Park played amazingly and they made our game challenging and fun. All teams played hard. Thank You Ashley Park for welcoming us to your school. All the best in the future! Noah Teeball When we arrived at Ashley Park everyone was so excited to play our first round of interschool sport for 2023… When we got to the oval we set up the bases and got ready for fielding. The other school decided to bat first and they were amazing to play against! We were all communicating well with everyone. Even though we were so exhausted, that might have been our best game yet. Hamish Girls Cricket Friday, the girls team did an excellent job in cricket, while playing with Ashley Park. Everyone did very well and it was enjoyable. We did our best to win…and we did! Ashley Park scored 64 in total, while Mernda Park scored an impressive 107 runs. GREAT JOB TEAM!! We did our best as a team and came away with a win! Melody Mixed Cricket On the 17th of February, the mixed team did a brilliant job in cricket, when playing with Ashley Park. We tried our best to win, but unfortunately, we lost. Ashley Park scored a huge 142 in total, while Mernda Park scored a solid 111 runs in total. It didn’t matter about winning. It was about trying our absolute best. The thing that got me hyped up was to see Hunter.C hit a 6! Or when Archer unexpectedly hit a wicket! Everybody used their C.A.R.E values and there is nothing that I would change about Round 1. Arash As a part of the 'Positive Start' initiative program, created by the Victorian Government, the Yan Yean Learning Community students were fortunate to have an incursion with Basketball Victoria. Our 5/6's students were taught how to play Wheelchair Hoops. This incursion was an incredible experience which helped to further teach our students about one of our MPPS CARE values, Empathy. "I thought Wheelchair Hoops was lots of fun! I learned that a different type of wheelchair is used to play wheelchair basketball." - Isabella "It was an amazing experience! We got to do lots of fun things like dribble, play games and spin in circles. But by the end, every bodies arms were tired." - Oliver "Wheelchair Hoops was the best thing I've ever experienced! We learned so much and had so much fun." - Romana "It was an awesome experience to put myself in someone else's shoes and experience what it is like to be in a wheelchair." - Hamish
WOW! What an amazing start to 2023, in Yan Yean Learning Community.
The 5/6 students planned, wrote and published three descriptive poems about themselves; an acrostic poem, a limerick poem and a cinquain poem. The 5/6's wrote all about their personality traits, hobbies, interests, families, friends and cultures. The students also designed and decorated an 'All About Me' shoe to accompany their writing. The Yan Yean teachers are so proud of all the 5/6's, and are looking forward to an amazing year of learning! Fun Fridays! Students in Yan Yean Learning Community have been participating in our electives program which has taken place on Friday mornings in Term 4. Students have completed various learning programs which reflect subjects they will be learning about in high school. YYLC students have had an amazing time with these hands on activities!
All about perspective! Students wrote descriptive writing pieces from the perspective of a human, bug or object that they can see in our school yard. Students did a fantastic job with their writing!
Yesterday we learnt about the importance of asking R U OK? Students practiced asking each other how they are feeling and what we can do to help, even if we are not an expert!
Students then made a yellow wristband to wear home to help teach their families and friends about R U OK? Day. On Tuesday the 30th of August, we had some Police Officers from the Mernda Police Station visit Mernda Park.
The Officer’s spent the afternoon getting to know our YYLC students and participating in a friendly game of Futsal (indoor soccer), which was run by our YYLC students during Sports Club. We were able to teach the Police Officer’s our MPPS C.A.R.E values and showcase how we incorporate them into our sports program. This was a fantastic way for MPPS students to interact with our local police in a fun and positive way. We hope to continue this program in the future. Our Grade 5 students were overjoyed about being invited to visit the ELC next door to MPPS.
The students carefully selected a picture story book from our library and read to the eager kindergartners. This was a fantastic opportunity for our Grade 5 students to connect with our future prep students and build relationships in our Mernda Community. We are so proud of our amazing role models! |
