Whole-School Production and Post-Production Stages in Media Arts

21/6/2024

The production and post-production stages in Media are important for students to bring their planned visions to life by allocating roles and responsibilities amongst team members. and practicing life-skills of perseverance, problem-solving, and flexibility.
During Weeks 4-7 of Term 2, each year level across MPPS were provided with the opportunity to create a Media Artwork of a particular purpose.
Years F - 2 students created and edited Stop Motion animations about 'The 3 Little Pigs' and 'The 6 Gariwerd Seasons' by capturing a sequence of images and recording their voices to make matching sound effects. It was wonderful to see students creating titles using letter tiles, and students working together to slightly move props and characters after each image was taken.
Year 3/4 students filmed and assembled movies about discovering a new object after a long voyage, and leaving the land respectfully. The students followed responsible media practices and safety, chose appropriate filming spaces in the school to match their imaginary settings (e.g. Gaga Pit as a ship), trimmed clips on the iMovie app to build a clear structure, and inserted movie titles.
Year 5/6 students recorded and edited Radio Advertisements, by setting up private sound booths with stage blocks, re-adjusting scripts when necessary, and composing background music using the GarageBand's musical instruments. It was lovely to see students using considerate, inclusive and professional language to share cultural information about Reconciliation Week.
As Term 2 comes to a near close, each year level is now in the analysing stage of Media artworks with self-reflections and peer-feedback.
