This term SLC has been learning about different cultures from around the world, developing an appreciation of multicultural Australia. On Wednesday SLC participated in a Celebration Day. Students and staff came dressed in what they would wear to a celebration like a party or family celebration. There were students dressed for a variety of occasions like birthdays, Christmas, Diwali, Eid and a wedding. On Friday 21st November we celebrated our MPPS House Athletics Carnival. We were so lucky to have great weather and students enjoyed participating in lots of different activities. A big thank you to our wonderful PE teacher Maddi and the Grade 5/6 helpers for organising and running such a fun event. More photos of the whole school can also be found on the PE blog. This term, SLC students have been visiting Kingswim in Mernda each Thursday afternoon to participate in swimming lessons. These lessons have been an important part of our students' learning vital Water Safety skills. We are swimming superstars! Also, a big thank you to all our parent helpers that assisted us each week. This term, during our integrated studies program (MAPPEN), we have been learning all about science. Students have explored the concept of science through a variety of hands on investigations. On Tuesday 19th August, 2025, MPPS celebrated Book Week with a wonderful parade in the gym. Book Week this year was held from 16th-23rd August, with the theme of 'Book an adventure'. SLC students and teachers did a fantastic job and we enjoyed helping to celebrate 80 years of Children's Book Week!! Last Wednesday 13th August, MPPS students participated in a whole school Science day. This was a wonderful way to celebrate National Science Week (9th-17th August, 2025). The theme this year was 'Decoding the Universe'. Students enjoyed participating in different science rotations, in multi-age groups, with exciting activities such as creating dinosaur fossils, testing domino runs & making swirling galaxies in a jar. NAIDOC week was held this year on Sunday July 6-Sunday July 13, 2025. The theme for the week was "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy". SLC students commemorated the occasion by listening to the Indigenous story of Bunjil the eagle. They then used their fine motor skills to cut, tear and curl paper to create their own Bunjil eagle. We are so impressed with how they turned out! Students in SLC enjoyed celebrating the end of Term 2 with a 'Crazy Hair' day. We hope you enjoy all our creative and amazing efforts! In May, SLC visited Essendon Traffic School for their excursion. Essendon Traffic school is set up like a mini community with roads, traffic lights, zebra crossings, railway crossings, roundabouts, intersections, school crossings, petrol station and parking bays. In April, SLC students commemorated ANZAC Day by making and drawing their own poppies. Students then planned and wrote a procedural text explaining how to make or draw a poppy. Here are some examples of the wonderful work that SLC students created. |
