Market Day Magic: Grade 5 & 6 Shine as Young Entrepreneurs!

25/11/2025

Last week, our Grade 5 and 6 students transformed the Community Hub into a buzzing marketplace for our Market Day, and what an incredible event it was! After weeks of planning, designing, testing, and budgeting, students proudly opened their very own stalls and sold their creations to the younger year levels.

Each stall showcased the teamwork, imagination and hard work of our budding entrepreneurs. Students used their maths skills to set prices, give change, track profits, and manage budgets—all while providing excellent customer service.

The younger students loved visiting the stalls, exploring what was on offer, and supporting their older peers. Smiles, laughter, and excitement filled the yard as classrooms took turns shopping and trying out the fun activities.

Market Day wasn’t just about selling—it was about learning. Students developed real-life skills in money handling, problem-solving, advertising, teamwork, and communication. It was amazing to see the pride on their faces as they watched their ideas come to life.

A huge congratulations to all our Grade 5 and 6 students for their creativity, effort, and enthusiasm. Market Day was a huge success thanks to you!

Queen Victoria Market Excursion

30/10/2025

Today, our Grade 5 and 6 students headed into the heart of Melbourne to explore one of the city’s most iconic locations — the Queen Victoria Market. As part of their research for their Market Day stalls, students were challenged to investigate how different businesses attract customers, display their products, and create a memorable shopping experience.
From the moment we arrived, the market was buzzing with colour, sound, and delicious smells. Students split into small groups and ventured through the fresh produce halls, deli lanes, and outdoor stalls, taking notes, and interviewing stallholders with confidence and curiosity.
Many discovered clever marketing techniques — from creative signage and eye-catching displays to free samples and friendly customer service. Others focused on pricing strategies, product arrangement, or how businesses use culture and storytelling to connect with buyers.
Along the way, students also learned about the history of Queen Victoria Market and its importance to Melbourne’s community. For some, it was their first time visiting this bustling landmark, making the experience even more exciting.
The excursion not only helped students gather real-world data for their research project, but also encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and independence. We are incredibly proud of how respectful, engaged, and enthusiastic they were throughout the day.

Grade 6 Taster day at Mernda Central College

22/10/2025

Our Grade 6 students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Mernda Central College for a Year 7 Taster Day as they begin preparing for their transition to secondary school next year.
Throughout the day, students experienced a variety of engaging and hands-on lessons, giving them a taste of what life in Year 7 will be like. They participated in a Japanese class, where they learned simple greetings and explored aspects of Japanese culture. In PE, students got active and worked together in fun team challenges, showing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. The Digitech session was another highlight — students explored coding and digital problem-solving, discovering how technology plays a big role in their future learning.
It was wonderful to see our students approach each activity with curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to try new things. The day gave them a real sense of excitement about the opportunities that await them in secondary school.
We’re very proud of the way our Grade 6s represented our school and can’t wait to see them continue to grow as they prepare for this next big step!

City of Whittlesea Youth SUmmit

15/9/2025

On Thursday 11 September, our four school captains, Aarna, Ethan, Chloe and Dante, attended the City of Whittlesea Youth Summit. The day consisted of sessions focused on giving these young leaders a voice and building their confidence. The ideas from this summit will be collated by the City of Whittlesea in conjunction with La Trobe University to inform the City of Whittlesea Youth Plan for 2026.
Here is what our student leaders thought:
“The Youth Summit taught me that anyone can be a leader, no matter who they are. It was such an honour to attend The City of Whittlesea Youth Summit, and I am grateful to take part in such a fun get together with all the schools.” - Aarna
“Thank you for inviting us to this event, we feel privileged and hope to see ourselves in the youth council in the future to make a difference to the City Of Whittlesea. ‘ - Ethan
“I enjoyed the Youth Summit because it gave youth leaders and students in our community an opportunity to have a voice on topics such as mental health and wellbeing and how we can support youths in our community. We enjoyed fun activities at lunch time like VR, live animals, henna art and so much more! We were so lucky to be invited and to represent MPPS at the City of Whittlesea Youth Summit. Thank you Holly for taking us!” - Chloe
“I enjoyed today's youth summit and glad I had the chance to attend..
I got a better understanding about leadership. One thing I learnt was good leaders help, guide and inspire others. I also liked how they put fidgets on every table, it helped me concentrate.” - Dante

Literacy and Numeracy Week

11/9/2025

This year’s Literacy and Numeracy Day was a hit with a Relay Maths/Literacy Race in the gym! Students formed teams and raced through various stations, solving quick math problems and tackling literacy challenges like word scrambles and reading quizzes.

The relay added a competitive twist—each teammate had to complete a task before tagging the next person. The energy was high, with plenty of laughs and teamwork. Students loved combining academic skills with physical activity, and everyone had a blast.

It was a fantastic way to boost literacy and numeracy skills while having fun, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

pYJAMA dAY aT SCHOOL

3/9/2025

Yesterday our school was filled with fluffy slippers, colourful pyjamas, and even a few dressing gowns as students took part in our Pyjama Day fundraiser! Everyone was invited to wear their comfiest pyjamas to school in exchange for a gold coin donation.
The day was full of smiles and fun as students enjoyed the chance to learn in their favourite sleepwear. From superhero pyjamas to classic stripes, it was wonderful to see the creativity and comfort on display. Even some of the teachers joined in the fun, making the day extra special!
Most importantly, the gold coin donations collected will go towards supporting our school. A big thank you to all our families for their generosity and support.

Book Week dress up day!

21/8/2025

This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students had an amazing time celebrating Book Week by dressing up as their favourite book characters. From magical wizards and adventurous heroes to mischievous villains and storybook classics, the creativity and effort that went into the costumes was incredible!

Adding to the fun, all of the Grade 5 and 6 teachers teamed up and dressed as the iconic Where’s Wally – which kept the students on their toes trying to spot them throughout the day! 👓🔴⚪

It was wonderful to see so much excitement and energy as we celebrated a love of reading together. Days like these remind us how powerful books can be in sparking imagination, laughter, and connection.

A huge well done to all our Grade 5 and 6 students (and teachers!) for making Book Week such a memorable event. 📖❤️

100 Days of prep disco!

20/8/2025

Last week our Grade 6 students celebrated a very special milestone with their Prep buddies – 100 Days of School! To mark the occasion, the gym was transformed into a disco! The Preps were so excited to show off their moves, and the Grade 6s were fantastic role models, helping their buddies join in the fun. From playing with balloons to hula hoop battles, there were smiles all around as everyone celebrated reaching 100 days of learning together.

It was wonderful to see the friendships between the Preps and their Grade 6 buddies growing stronger. The disco wasn’t just about having fun – it was about celebrating hard work, making memories, and showing that school is a place for joy as well as learning.

Here’s to the next 100 days of learning, laughter, and buddy time!

Unforgettable Adventures at Camp Alexandra

29/7/2025

From July 2nd to 4th, our Grade 5 and 6 students swapped their schoolbooks for harnesses, helmets, and heaps of fun as they headed off on an unforgettable school camp adventure!
The camp was packed with thrilling activities that challenged students to step out of their comfort zones and work together as a team. From soaring through the trees on the flying fox to conquering fears on the high ropes course, every student found a moment to shine.
One of the highlights was the epic game of laser tag, where students teamed up and battled it out against the teachers in a forest arena full of laughter and friendly competition. Between activities, students bonded over shared meals, late-night chats, and plenty of marshmallow roasting.
More than just fun, the camp helped build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. We’re so proud of how every student gave their best, encouraged one another, and made lasting memories. A huge thank you to our amazing staff and camp leaders for making it all possible!
We’re already counting down to next year’s adventure!

mpps open morning - A Celebration of Culture in yan yean learning community

21/5/2025

This morning, our Yan Yean classrooms came alive with colour, creativity, and connection as families joined us to create a Culture Quilt in celebration of our cultural diversity.
Parents, grandparents, and guardians worked alongside students to design quilt squares that told meaningful stories—about heritage, traditions, languages, and family values. Each square reflected the unique identity of a student, creating a powerful tapestry of who we are as a community.
It was a joyful and meaningful morning filled with shared stories, laughter, and learning. Thank you to all the families who joined us—you helped make this experience truly special.
