Queen Victoria Market Excursion

30/10/2025

Today, our Grade 5 and 6 students headed into the heart of Melbourne to explore one of the city’s most iconic locations — the Queen Victoria Market. As part of their research for their Market Day stalls, students were challenged to investigate how different businesses attract customers, display their products, and create a memorable shopping experience.
From the moment we arrived, the market was buzzing with colour, sound, and delicious smells. Students split into small groups and ventured through the fresh produce halls, deli lanes, and outdoor stalls, taking notes, and interviewing stallholders with confidence and curiosity.
Many discovered clever marketing techniques — from creative signage and eye-catching displays to free samples and friendly customer service. Others focused on pricing strategies, product arrangement, or how businesses use culture and storytelling to connect with buyers.
Along the way, students also learned about the history of Queen Victoria Market and its importance to Melbourne’s community. For some, it was their first time visiting this bustling landmark, making the experience even more exciting.
The excursion not only helped students gather real-world data for their research project, but also encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and independence. We are incredibly proud of how respectful, engaged, and enthusiastic they were throughout the day.
