Weeks 3-9, Term 2: Drama through the Indigenous Perspective

This term in Drama, our Grade 3/4 students have taken a deep dive into the rich cultural tradition of Indigenous Australian performance through an exciting research project on Corroborees. Rather than performing, students have been exploring the importance of Drama in Indigenous culture, learning how Corroborees are used to tell stories, pass on knowledge, and connect with Country and community.
Working in collaborative groups, students have used digital devices to research, discussed their findings, and drafted their work collaboratively in their drama workbooks. They analysed a real-life example performance using the Elements of Drama, such as movement, voice, character, and symbolism. This project also thoughtfully connected with National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, helping students reflect on the power of storytelling and the importance of cultural respect.
For many students who prefer theory to performance, this has been a wonderful opportunity to shine. Their creativity is now starting to come through beautifully presented posters, showcasing their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous drama. It’s been a meaningful and engaging term full of thoughtful learning and cultural connection.
