After Round 5 was washed out, we were lucky to squeeze in a make-up round last week against Mernda Hills Christian College, who travelled to us for a home game. With no AFL teams available from Mernda Hills, it was just our soccer and netball teams who took to the courts and fields—bringing their usual energy and sportsmanship to the day! We finished the round with a solid result: 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw! This make-up match marks the end of a fantastic term of Interschool Sport for our Grade 6s. Throughout the term, our students have shown growth, teamwork, resilience and pride in their efforts. It’s been a joy to watch them compete and support each other week after week. Check out the scores from the round below, along with the final ladder standings for each of our teams!
Prep - Bouncing Skills Our Prep students have been exploring the fundamental skill of bouncing! They’ve practiced using two hands and one hand to bounce and catch a ball, learning how to control the force and direction. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they’ve developed coordination, focus and persistence through fun, active games. Prep – Learning to Kick Our Prep students have been learning the basics of kicking through fun activities like “Kick like a Penguin” and “Kick like a Ballerina.” These games have helped them understand how to use balance, aim, and different parts of their foot to control the ball. They’ve done a fantastic job developing their kicking skills, and in the final week of term, they’ll be introduced to kicking an AFL footy! Grade 1 > 6 - Tennis Skills Students in Grades 1 to 6 have been developing their tennis skills through a range of fun and engaging activities. They’ve focused on striking a ball using a forehand action, rallying with a partner, and moving into position to return the ball. Across the year levels, students have also built teamwork, communication and resilience as they challenged themselves to improve and support each other during games and skill-building tasks. Grade 5/6 – Hockey and Team Strategy Our senior students have been learning how to play hockey! They’ve developed key skills such as dribbling, passing, and tackling while also exploring team strategy. We’ve focused on working together to create space, communicate on the field, and apply their learning during modified games. Whole School – AST (Athletic Skills Track) Assessment Students from Prep to Grade 6 recently completed the AST (Athletic Skills Track) assessment. This whole-school task challenged students to move through an obstacle course designed to assess a range of fundamental movement skills. It was fantastic to see everyone giving their best effort and encouraging their peers, while also reflecting on how their movement skills have progressed throughout the year. We were back at home for Round 7, hosting Whittlesea Primary School in another exciting morning of sport. The sun was shining, the games were close, and our students showed fantastic teamwork and school pride! While the Girls AFL team didn’t have a game this round, they didn’t sit on the sidelines—they came along and cheered on the Mixed AFL team, showing incredible support and team spirit. Across all sports, we finished the day with 4 wins and just 1 close loss—a great result that reflects the hard work and effort of our students. A big thank you to our superstar Grade 5s who filled in this week: Shaelah, Brianna, Misty, Leah, Lily, Zara, Maddison, Rebecca and Ayvah—you helped make Round 7 another success!
