On the last day of term, MPPS came alive with colour for our annual Team Colours Day! Students and staff dressed proudly in the colours of their favourite sporting teams, with everything from AFL, soccer, basketball, NFL, netball, cricket, NRL and national teams on display. We even had plenty of support for our own MPPS House teams – Alcott, Barty, Kerr and Mills. The day kicked off with a vibrant parade, showcasing the amazing variety of colours and team spirit. Afterwards, students roamed the Oval and Courts, taking part in a huge range of activities including netball, basketball, volleyball, skipping, soccer, AFL and rugby. For those looking to dance instead of dribble, the bike shed dance party was a massive hit, with the Kpop Demon Hunters playlist absolutely going off! It was a fantastic morning full of energy, fun and community spirit—a perfect way to wrap up the term.
The real stars, though, were the cheer squads. Students from all year levels packed the sidelines, waving posters, shouting encouragement, and laughing at the occasional teacher dive that didn’t quite go to plan.
Who won? Nobody knows — and honestly, nobody cared. The score was never the point. The day was all about fun, laughter, and creating those end-of-term memories that everyone will be talking about until next time. (Although, if you ask the students, they’re already claiming bragging rights!) On Tuesday, 16th September, 16 of our students proudly represented our school at the Whittlesea Division Athletics, held at Meadowglen Athletics Track. Despite the cold and windy conditions, our students gave their absolute best and showcased outstanding effort, determination, and sportsmanship. We are thrilled to announce that Jensen, Kai, Cristian and Alisha have qualified for the Northern Metropolitan Regional (NMR) Athletics Championships, which will take place next term on Wednesday, 15th October. In addition, 3 students and 1 of our relay teams have been named as emergencies in case other athletes are unable to compete. We are incredibly proud of every student who participated, and we wish our Regional competitors the very best of luck as they take on the next challenge!
Last Thursday, ten of our Grade 6 boys proudly represented Mernda Park at the State Hockey Championships held at the Footscray Hockey Club. They competed against schools from all across Victoria, showcasing incredible determination and teamwork.
What makes this achievement even more special is that none of the boys had ever played hockey before this year! For them to progress so far and perform at such a high level is a true reflection of the talented and resilient sportspeople they are. We are extremely proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school community with pride and sportsmanship. Last Monday, seven of our Grade 6 boys represented Mernda Park at the Hoop Time Basketball Tournament after an outstanding, undefeated performance during Term 1 Interschool Sport.
Hoop Time is a one-day basketball tournament held at local stadiums across Victoria, giving students in Grades 5 and 6 the opportunity to compete in a fun and supportive environment with qualified referees. Our team competed in the Senior All Star Division and played fantastically, making it all the way to the semi-finals! We are so proud of the way the boys represented our school, showing amazing teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to the team on such a fantastic achievement! Today marked the final round of Interschool Sport for both the term and the year, and what a perfect day to finish on!
With beautiful weather and plenty of smiles, our teams hosted St Paul’s the Apostle at home. They were a fantastic school to play against, and it was great to see everyone having fun out on the courts and fields. A special thank you goes to our Grade 5s who filled in this round – Ayvah, Sofia, Myra, Lucy, Misty and Naomi – your efforts helped make the day such a success. Check out the scores below. Today, our ISS teams travelled to Whittlesea Primary School for Round 6 of Interschool Sport. It was another chilly start, but the sunshine made for a beautiful morning of games.
We had an excellent round, finishing with 5 wins and 1 draw – a fantastic effort from all teams! Unfortunately, our Girls Softball team didn’t get to play this week as Whittlesea had to forfeit. That didn’t stop our girls though – they showed great spirit by cheering on their peers from the sidelines and keeping the energy high. A big thank you to our Grade 5s who filled in this round: Sofia, Myra, Lily and Misty. Your support is always appreciated! Check out the scores below to see how each team went. Last Thursday, 28th of August, 46 students from Grades 3–6 proudly represented our school at the Bridge Inn North (BIN) District Athletics Carnival, competing against 12 other schools. Despite the cold and windy conditions—and the threat of rain that thankfully held off—our students performed exceptionally well, with many finishing in the top three of their events. We are thrilled to share that 16 students have now qualified for the Division Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Tuesday, 16th of September. You can see the list of these students and their qualifying events in the table below. A huge thank you to MPPS staff Carolyn, Ryan and Felicity for supporting our team on the day, and to the families who came along to cheer them on. Division Qualifiers
