This week in PE, our students celebrated NAIDOC Week by learning about some of Australia's remarkable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes and the sports they excel in.
As a warm-up, they played a traditional Indigenous game called Apwerte, where students had to roll a ball between two bowling pins. They were inspired by Cathy Freeman and participated in a sprinting game, practiced netball skills like Donelle Wallam, played tennis like Ash Barty, honed their AFL goal-kicking with Charlie Cameron, developed basketball skills inspired by Patty Mills, and engaged in handballing target practice like Bobby Hill. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to recognize and appreciate the contributions of these outstanding athletes while having fun and staying active.
