This week at MPPS we are celebrating Book Week! Children's book week runs from August 22nd-August 28th, and this year's theme is 'Symphony of Stories'. Some of the exciting activities we have planned are: - Dress up and school parade - Where's Wally scavenger hunt- how many can you find? - Making our own bookmarks - Reading some of the CBCA Shortlisted picture books of the year. - Designing our own book front cover A big thank you to everyone who helped make our Book Week celebration such a special time! This National Science week, our students became scientists! They posed questions, made predictions and tested their ideas. There were lots of discoveries and big wonderings that students explored. Some of the activities included: -Skittles science experiment -Grow your own cress head -Make a friction frog -Exploring static electricity -Bee pollination experiment This multi-age experience also gave students the opportunity to work with and learn from different peers at MPPS. What a fun day! For more information about National Science Week, please click on the link below:

We were so lucky at MPPS this week to have a special visit from author, illustrator, cartoonist & animator Brett Cardwell. Brett, known as 'Cardy', has been sharing his love and passion for creating for over 30 years. Students enjoyed having the opportunity to complete a guided drawing with Brett and also asked him some great questions about his career as an author and illustrator. We look forward to many exciting and fun learning events in term 3 including:
We celebrated the end of a wonderful term 2 with a Crazy Hair Day! It was so amazing to see all the bright colours, glitter, wigs, and creative designs that really showcased the MPPPS spirit. Thanks to everyone that participated and brought a gold coin to raise money for charity. As part of our Inquiry unit this term, students have been exploring the topic 'Raw to Ready: From plate to supermarket'. On Monday 15th June, to celebrate our learning, students participated in a variety of hands-on activities. We had a wonderful incursion run by expert educator Carolyn from Edendale Farm. It was fun to get to see, touch and learn fun facts about worms. Students also got to plant their own seed to take care of at home. Other activities for the day included creating leaf animals, testing our knowledge of sustainability on Kahoot (iPads) and completing environmental word searches and drawing tasks. It was a fantastic day and we can't wait to get started on our next Inquiry topic in Term 3- Robot Buddies! This semester our SLC students have worked hard to create a persuasive writing piece about reducing plastic waste in our environment. Students drafted, edited and published their writing over several weeks. To celebrate their achievements, our students shared their posters with PLC students!
It was wonderful to see our students read their work proudly to PLC students and teachers. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to practise their speaking and listening skills and develop their confidence. Well done to our SLC superstars!! Thank-you to all our wonderful SLC families for making our Monday morning extra special during the MPPS Education Week last week. This year, the theme for Education Week was 'Showcase your school!' Our Grade 1 and 2 students were so excited to share some of the Math fluency games that we play. These math games help to support student understanding of number, the four processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division) and develop strategic mathematical thinking. Thank you again! Our SLC students have been very busy bees so far in Term 2! During Literacy, we have been developing our understanding of phonics as we work through the different Little Learners Love Literacy stages. In Maths, we have continued to develop our fluency and understanding of number and place value. We have also enjoyed learning about 2d shapes and symmetry. For Writing, we have been learning about persuasive texts and how to use high modality words to strengthen our argument. During our weekly Oral Language sessions, students have enjoyed practising their speaking and listening skills through a variety of engaging, hands-on play scenarios. We are having a wonderful time in Grade 1/2! |
