In late 2020 the City of Whittlesea opened a grant to support local communities to reconnect following the second COVID lockdown. The goal of this project was to encourage the local community reconnecting. Connecting with the families and local community is a strategic objective of the school. With the approval of school council and our Principal Mary Ryan, School Council President Catherine Simcox drafted a submission to council which was successful in obtaining the grant. Together our school community lead by Catherine, parent volunteers and MPPS staff used the grant to organise a whole school community event.
The MPPS Groovy Movie night was held on Thursday 22 April. The goal of this project was to encourage community reconnecting. Connecting with the families and local community is a strategic objective of the school. This was the outcome of an idea suggested by members of the Fundraising Committee over two years ago. At the time the Fundraising Committee explored the costs of hiring the equipment and identified that the money required to host the event was beyond their capacity. This grant was a great opportunity to make our idea come to life. The evening was a great success with over 500 people attending bringing together our local community for an enjoyable evening of live performances by the YMCA Mernda ELC, MPPS School Choir and Whittlesea Music students, hot food and watching a movie on the big screen in our stadium. A big thank you to our parent volunteers for organising the evening, and our MPPS Staff for volunteering their time during the event.
