The grade 2s all term were focusing on light and sound. Throughout this process the students created and performed a shadow puppet show to their cohort. This week was all about science, we were able to learn and attempt some super science activities. Please see us trying to pick up a cup with just elastic bands! MPPS has engaged the services of Ann Angelopoulos, a very experienced writing consultant, to work with staff and some students in a series of writing workshops. The workshops have taken place over a two-week period. These workshops have focused on a holistic and consistent approach to writing at MPPS, developing teachers’ capacity to scaffold and engage students in the writing process, while maximising each student’s performance as a writer. The hands-on activities helped to empower students to become great writers by explicitly teaching writing strategies and providing high-quality models of writing within a structured framework. There has been a strong focus on vocabulary development and the use of engaging writing strategies such as similes, personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration and hyperbole. Everyone term we study a certain book, we call this Readers' Notebook. This term we are focusing on Alice in Wonderland.
