Gymnastics Unit
Over the first five weeks, students will be participating in an exciting gymnastics unit using the Launchpad program. Lessons have been tailored to suit each age group, with Prep–Grade 2 students completing Gym Fun activities and Grade 3–6 students focusing on Gym Skills.
Throughout the unit, students will develop their fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, and confidence through a range of engaging activities. These include creating body shapes (such as tuck, pike, star and rocket), balancing and moving on benches, and practising safe jumping and landing techniques.
Students will also explore rotations and movement patterns through activities like log rolls, forward and backward rolls, and for older students, more advanced skills such as egg rolls and cartwheels. Partner work will play an important role, with students supporting each other in balances and learning how to work safely and collaboratively.
In addition, students will take part in rhythmic gymnastics activities using equipment such as skipping ropes, hula hoops, and balls to create movement sequences.
By the end of the unit, students will combine their skills to create short routines, encouraging creativity, teamwork, and confidence in their movement abilities.
Assessment: Athletic Skills Track
Midway through the term, all year levels will prepare for and complete the Athletics Skills Track (AST) assessment. This obstacle course-style assessment includes up to eight movement skills performed in sequence, tailored to different age groups. Skills assessed may include rolling, bunny hopping, jumping, running, slalom movements, clambering, and crawling. Students will be scored based on speed and execution of these skills.
Athletics
At the end of the term, students will be participating in an athletics unit, developing their skills across a range of track and field events.Students in Grade 3–6 will take part in try-outs for the Bridge Inn North District Athletics event, which will be held in Term 3. During lessons, students will have the opportunity to practise and trial for a variety of events, including high jump, long jump, triple jump, sprints, hurdles, shot put, and discus. These sessions will focus on skill development, technique, and giving every student the chance to challenge themselves and perform at their best.
Students in Prep–Grade 2 will focus on building foundational skills through fun, engaging activities and games. They will be introduced to modified versions of athletics events, helping them develop confidence, coordination, and an understanding of basic techniques in a supportive environment.
