Term 4 Visual Arts; Space and Form

Term 4 will round out our year looking at the Elements of Space and Form.
Space surrounds us, stretching to infinity or compressed into a balloon. Our perception of space can change according to distance between objects, perspective and tone.
Form is the three-dimensional representation of the two-dimensional element of shape. Forms can be geometric or abstract. A sculpture is a three-dimensional form.

PLC: Directional language begins the element of Space; foreground, background, horizon, centre...The students will practise using their whole page for their artwork. They will then explore the paper cutting technique of fringing. The preppies will then explore magiclay to make pinchpots and packing peanuts to make creatures.
SLC: Positive and negative space in art will be introduced as well as Australian artist, Ken Done. Students will explore different materials to make lizards and a collage representing the outdoors.
CLC: A 3D paper coral reef will be the first task for the 3/4 students. They will then extend their knowledge of positive and negative space and finish the term creating sculptures with straws and collaborative pieces using found or recycled objects.
YYLC: Sculpting with paper will be the main focus of term 4 for our 5/6 students. Paper spheres and 3D paper portraits will be the skills we will explore. Year 5 students will then move on to sewing felt creatures while the year 6 students create their special Graduation artworks.

Here is the Visual Arts timetable for Term 4. Please remember that this may change as the term progresses:

Term 3; Texture, Texture, Texture

Term 3 will be short and sharp at only 9 weeks, with lots going on in the MPPS community.
In Visual Ars, all students will be focusing on the same Element of Art; Texture. We can experience texture in art in many different ways, from 3D texture in sculpture or textiles, to implied texture in drawing and painting.
PLC: The introduction to the Art Element of texture for PLC is focused on exploring different materials. From Icypole Stick People to painting with forks, our preppies will get creative in many different ways.
SLC: This term will see SLC students mimic the bark of native trees using paper and have their first introduction to sewing (using plastic needles and wool). They will also learn how to make a collograph.
CLC: CLC students will experiment with painting using scrunched up newspaper and create mixed media collages inspired by the work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We are also goibg to experiment with adding rock salt to watercolour to create texture.
YYLC: This is a very special term for YYLC. We are lucky to have a visiting artist, Lauren, from The Song Room working with the students all term. The Song Room is part of the Mental Health Menu which is a list of the protective factors recommended by the Department of Education to support our young people.

Keep checking in with the Visual Arts blog to see what is happening.

Below is the Term 3 Visual Arts schedule. Please bear in mind that sometimes unavoidable changes occur.

Term 2 already...

Term One is ending and we will all take a well deserved break. The students all worked so hard this term and produced some amazing work. I have seen many students challenge themselves with their art this term with some outstanding results.
In Term Two we will move onto two new Elements of Art; Line and Shape.
PLC: We will explore naming lines and repeating lines to create patterns. We will also explore the link between shape and emotions.
SLC: The students will create a rainbow city using lines and patterns to decorate it. We will then explore shape through collage to create an echidna and a watercolour dreamscape.
CLC: Students will use the artwork ov Vassili Kadinsky to create their own print and create an abstract shape collage.
YYLC: The students will explore line through foam etching and use the work of Henri Matisse as inspiration for their own collage. They will finish the term creating a rubbing plate and rubbings representing a current world issue.

The Term Two Visual Arts timetable is below. Please note that sometimes there are timetable changes during the term.

Welcome Back! Term 1 2025

Picture
It is so exciting to be back in 2025. I am really looking forward to sharing Visual Arts with all your children this year.
Term One will be all about settling in and reviewing our MPPS CARE values. We will also explore the first Element of Art; Colour and Colour Value.
PLC: We will explore the link between colour and emotions and colour and diversity.
SLC: We will begin to explore colour value by using tints (adding white to a colour to make it lighter) and shades (adding black to a colour to make it darker).
CLC: We will explore colour while creating a 3D collage and then look at colour value in a monochromatic landscape (a painting using only one colour and white (to make tints) and black (to make shades)
YYLC: We will begin with a collaborative mural inspired by street art and then create a piece inspired by the work of Australian artist, Ken Done.

I hope that all the students are ready for another fun and creative year of Visual Arts. I have attached the Term One Visual Arts timetable below. Please note that this may change as the term progresses.
