This term, during our integrated studies program (MAPPEN), we are learning all about how living things change (before / after). To help us observe changes to living things, we planted strawberries, lettuce, rocket, rainbow silver beet and kale seeds in our MPPS garden beds. We cannot wait to watch and document our seeds growth/changes over the course of Term 2 and 3. Our Buddies Program is held once a week and involves students in Year 6 and Prep. Each prep child is paired with a grade 6 child and they participate in a range of activities such as sport activities, outdoor games, craft activities and using technology. The aims of the Buddies Program are to:
At MPPS, we came together to celebrate Harmony Day on the 21st of March. Created in 1999 to celebrate unity and diversity, Harmony Day was originally an Australian celebration but is now marked worldwide by conscientious citizens. In PLC we practise harmonious habits every day by learning about and following our CARE values. To commemorate Harmony Day this year, the preps drew pictures of themselves doing something kind on an orange hand. Take a look at our PLC display for Harmony Day.
We have been learning how to name and celebrate our personal strengths such as HELPFUL, KIND, PATIENT, BRAVE, NEAT, HARDWORKING and FRIENDLY. We displayed our personal strengths on our celebration tree.
As a part of our mathematics program, the preps thoroughly enjoyed learning how to ask and answer yes / no questions by practising surveying their peers and tallying and displaying their results on simple graphs using unifix blocks. We created play-dough family portraits to represent the different families in PLC. We used interesting describing words to write a sentence about our family. We have been learning about and using the language of location and direction, such as forwards, backwards, on, in front, behind, up, down, over, under, around and in-between. We enjoyed designing and building obstacle courses and moved puppets into different positions.
