As a part of our 3D shape exploration, we engaged in an ice sphere science experiment. First, we each filled a balloon with water and popped it in the freezer. Next, we took our balloons out of the freezer and we had ICE SPHERES! Then, we cut the balloons off, sprinkled the ice spheres with salt and listened and watched as the ice crackled and popped. Finally, we poured food colouring on top of the salt and observed the colour run through all of the ice cracks and crevices. We had a lot of fun learning about 3D shapes.
We are learning how to recognise, name and describe 3D shapes, such as spheres and cubes.
This week in writing, we made fruit sticks as a stimulus for our procedural writing process.
Step 1, Cut up the fruit. Step 2. Slide the fruit onto the stick. Step 3, Eat the delicious, juicy and nutritious fruit!
We are learning about what living things need to grow so that we can help plants and animals to grow. We planted carrot, spring onion and radish seeds in our new MPPS garden beds. We enjoyed preparing the soil by raking it out evenly, digging holes to place our seeds in and watering our little seeds. Each week we will observe the changes in our vegetables and record the findings in our Sustainability Journal.
We are expanding our vocabulary related to sensory experiences through baking Easter cookies. We are learning new words including ‘ingredients’ and ‘utensils’. We are using interesting adjectives to describe the ingredients focusing on what they look, smell and feel like.
Take a look at our PLC Name Book! We created self-portraits and put together our own class book.
We are developing our literacy skills by practising how to write our names and matching spoken words to written words by pointing when reading aloud.
