Imagine A World That Burns Out Like a Light Bulb…

I’ll always remember the day the world burnt out to a crisp. It started with my morning routine - I got up, got dressed, and brushed my teeth. I ran downstairs to see the weather. I was expecting whistling wind and rain as cold as ice, and that normal two degrees winter day. I carefully stepped outside and to my surprise there was no whistling wind, no rain as cold as ice and no two degrees winter day, it was scorching hot. Why was this happening?...

Suddenly, as I lay on the floor dead confused, I heard a scorching little girl scream, ”Ahh!” screams my dad. I ran upstairs to see what all the drama was about. “What's wrong?” I yell trying to hear myself over the screaming. “It took over Russia” Dad said terrified. ”What took over Russia?” I ask confused and terrified. “It took over Russia and it’s coming for us!” Dad said so terrified he could barely speak the words. “Get all the bags and put everything in the house in them” Dad demands. As I put my toys in a bag, my face turns into a waterfall not even the biggest rocks can stop. I quickly grabbed my mum’s picture, and we sped off…

As I turned my tablet on, an abundance of news reports hogged it. It said an out of control fire has taken over Russia and is heading straight for China, with no end in sight. I instantly freaked out when I heard a fire was taking over Earth. An hour later. Dad said “we’re here” in a really deep voice, looking out the window terrified of what I’m going to see. The car gets loaded onto a metal cone shaped thing. I squeal at the top of my lungs “we're going to space!”(I have forever dreamed of setting foot on the crusty, bumpy, wrinkly moon.) “Calm down and go to sleep, the ride will be over when you wake up” Dad said really soothingly. I closed my eyes - ready to wake up to a new 3022…

As I open my eyes I see a new place, a new home, a new kingdom… I gently tapped my dad on the shoulder, “Dad, I had a nightmare” I said softly. “What was it about?” Dad asked me soothingly, “It was about mum, what really happened to her?” I asked curiously. “I don't really know” Dad said trying to think. “Do you think she survived as an astronaut but couldn't find her way home?” I was scared to hear the answer, “I hope so,” Dad said looking glum. I looked out the window trying to get past the space craft wall, “it’s so big” I say.

2 days later. I look in my bag in search of my diary, plop! My diary falls out of my bag.

Dear Diary, it's been two days since we boarded the rocket. Dad has got a beard. I don’t mean he grew it, I mean he bought it. I don’t know why he did it but he just did.

Dear Diary, I have a secret but I will not tell you.

Dear Diary, fine! I’ll tell you but don’t tell anyone, I snuck 100 bugs on the ship, Dad did say to bring everything in the house.

As I put my diary back into my bag, I felt an enormous bump! I look out the window to see what in the world, I mean the burnt out world, was going on. I saw a red planet surrounding us. “Are we on Mars?” I ask. Dad doesn’t answer, he carefully puts a space suit on me…

Dad carries me to a round looking dome. As I enter I see a lady looking at me with a smile as bright as the sun “Keira!” she shouts as she runs up to me. Dad was gobsmacked to see the lady, “Amy!” Dad screamed, I was dead confused at what was happening. “Keira, this is your Mum”, Dad said looking proud. Standing with my mum we watched the world burn to its last moment.

I’ll always remember the day the world burnt to crisp, but a new one started…
