PLC and SLC Monster Collages

Picture
It has been so wonderful to have the students back in Visual Arts.
In PLC and SLC, we have been using Collage to explore symmetry and paper techniques such as tearing and cutting 'on the fold'. We worked on these Collages for two weeks, first building the big shapes and then focusing on adding small details with layers.
The result was these wonderfully colourful Monster Collages.

Miniature Art Galleries - YYLC

In Week 1 of this term I asked the YYLC students to create Miniature Art Galleries and share their photos with me on Google Classroom. They had to create their own miniature artworks and then create a galleries for toys or pets. The final challenge was to use their knowledge of scale and perspective to take a photograph of their art gallery. I think that you will agree that they did a fantastic job. Some students even created Stop Motion videos of the visitors moving through their Gallery.

Remote Learning

Another unpredictable term that meant we spent most of it in remote learning. A big congratulations to all the families for their resilience and patience this term. We made it!
I hope that the Visual Arts tasks and morning motivations brought a little lightness and fun to your week. I am so proud of the positive attitude of the students this term. Here is a sample of some of the amazing art the MPPS students created at home. Superstars!

Earlier this term, some of the CLC and YYLC students completed a Drawing Challenge. We first looked at the artwork of Georgia O'Keefe for inspiration.
The challenge was to complete 3 drawings of a flower. The time allowed was different for each drawing:
Drawing 1 - 20 seconds
Drawing 2 - 2 minutes
Drawing 3 - 20 minutes.
The task was designed to help students with time management skills. We talked about making the most of the time provided and having a plan in our heads before we start. I think you will agree they did a wonderful job.

Term 3 - YYLC Exhibition Day

24/8/2021

Picture
After a short delay due to Lockdown 5, the YYLC Exhibition Day went ahead on 28 July. The students did such a wonderful job guiding the younger children through the Exhibition. Every Learning Community had the opportunity to experience the wonder of our Underwater World.
Congratulations to all the YYLC staff and students. This was the culmination of all the hard work of Semester 1 and everyone should be very proud of what we achieved together.
I have included some photos above and two of the wonderful time lapse videos that Briony created (thank you Briony) on the day.
A special thanks again to the wonderful artist, Mark Egan, who worked with us through Semester 1 to create our breathtaking exhibition.
Keep checking in to www.underthesea.com as Mark will keep adding material from the project.

term 2, week 8

8/6/2021

I know that this term has not quite progressed how we planned but I wanted to celebrate some of the wonderful work our Preppies were doing before lockdown. In Week 6 we looked at the picture book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
We read the story and then the students created an artwork in response to the story. They had a choice of materials to work with; coloured pencils, coloured markers, oil pastels and soft pastels.
When they were finished each student signed the front of the artwork like Vashti does in the story and 'framed' their work by gluing it onto a piece of coloured card.
I think you would agree they did a wonderful job!

Term 2 Week 4

14/5/2021

This term has been very busy with lots of new skills being attempted by the students. Our YYLC students continue to enjoy the Creative Workers program with our guest artist Mark Egan.
We are building a portfolio of artworks, both digital and traditional, which will be shared with the other Learning Communities at an Exhibition Day early in Term 3. For now, families can check out some of the work at:
www.schoolunderthesea.com
Make sure you keep checking in as Mark will be regularly adding to this page.

With the help of our wonderful ES staff, our Harmony Day project is on display in the office. The students did a wonderful job creating their individual fish  Be sure to check it out. Here are some photos:

SLC and CLC
Over the last two weeks the students from SLC and CLC have been exploring Line and Pattern. We began by watching a video about the Rainbow Village in Taiwan.
The students then created their own Rainbow Villages and I am sure you will agree that they did a wonderful job. I have put some of the work on display in the front office.

Term 3

15/7/2020

During Term 3, all students at MPPS are required to transition to remote learning. Students will primarily use Google Classroom to engage in learning. Students have daily schedules to complete assigned learning tasks, submit assignments and receive feedback from their teachers. This information is based on the curriculum content for Term 3 which students will be learning on-site or remotely.

In Visual Arts, students will be required to upload a photo of their work to Google Classroom each week. This will act as ongoing assessment for the term.

The focus for Remote Learning will be an exploration of some of the Elements of Art through drawing. The elements we will be focusing on will be: Texture, Form and Space.

Term 2 On-site Learning

10/7/2020

Though we only had a few weeks at the end of Term together in the classroom, the students produced some amazing work to finish of Term 2.
PLC/SLC: Continued to explore colour mixing through different painting techniques. We swapped our paintbrushes for cotton balls, cotton buds and string.
CLC: Students applied their colour theory and paper manipulation techniques to create amazing 3D artworks.
YYLC: Using Henri' Matisse's paper cutouts as inspiration the students created an indoor garden in the Learning Community. It was exciting to see how well the students collaborated to create this amazing piece of art.

Visual Arts Term 2

3/6/2020

Term 2 wasn't what we had planned, with all of us making the move to remote learning.
I am so proud of the resilience and flexibility shown by our students who took it all in their stride. Thank you also to our families who guided and supported the students through the remote learning period.
The work produced for Visual Arts during this term was amazing. We all made do with the resources we had at home and the results were great! You can see some examples below.
I look forward to returning to our new version of normal in Term 3.

PLC Term 1

16/3/2020

This term PLC did a fantastic job with their line landscapes. We drew our outlines together and then decorated our landscapes with all the different types of lines we have experimented with. The students then chose which colour card they would like to mount their artwork on to best display their work.
The students explored lines further with their Rainbow Fish. The template for their fish was created by tracing their partner's foot.
We finished most lessons this term with 'Gallery Time'. This involves the students sharing and discussing their work. We focused on commenting positively about what we liked in each others work.

Visual ARts Term 1

13/2/2020

MPPS VISUAL ARTS 2020

In Term 1 the focus for the whole school is Exploring the Elements of Art
PLC
SLC
CLC
YYLC
In PLC  we will explore lines and shapes by creating landscapes inspired by the work of Fernando Medeiros. Students will explore these art elements using various materials such as oil pastels, and water colours.
In SLC  we will explore lines and shapes by creating landscapes inspired by the work of Fernando Medeiros and Vincent Van Gogh. We will use language such as horizon, foreground and background.
In CLC we will be creating backgrounds in three parts using lines and shapes. These will be inspired by the art of Fernando Medeiros and Vincent Van Gogh. Students will then plan what they will add to their background and complete their artwork.
In YYLC we will examine aerial landscapes through
Google Earth and create our own landscapes to further explore line and shape from a different point of view.
