The game had ended and everyone was lined up and congratulated each other with smiling faces. Romana and Ruby F Mixed/Girls Soccer It was a wonderful day for our soccer teams. MPPS soccer had their first match of Term 2 Winter Sports. Our team had such good players, but so did Mernda Central College. They were an excellent team in the game, and they had very good defence. We had so many chances to score, but their defence was tough and solid. The scores were 1-0 for mixed (MPPS won), and the girls got 3-0 (MCC won). Overall, both teams did a great job in their first match together, demonstrating some promising signs to come. Arash Mixed AFL MPPS played a really good game against MCC. It was MCC’s first game and they played really well as a team for their first go. The scores were 91 to 18, MPPS came out with an outstanding win! We showed our leadership skills and CARE values to help out Mernda Central with what they were unsure about and we played well together as a team, even with some of our students that had never played before! Awesome work MPPS! Holly The day started off with a bang! People dressed up in the colours representing their houses. The 9 - 12 races went on first in the morning. The 9 - 10 boys race went on first followed by the 9 - 10 girls, the 11 boys, the 11 girls then finally the 12 boys & 12 girls ran the track that ranged from 2km to 3km! People screamed till their voices turned hoarse, encouraging each other and cheering one another on. We finished our races exhausted and puffed out, but proud and overjoyed that we had managed to run the insane distances we had completed. We all had done a phenomenal job and given our absolute best no matter our place. What an amazing morning for the Grade 3 - 6’s! The next races were the Prep to Grade 2 races in the afternoon. The prep boys followed by prep girls ran first showing an astounding effort for their first time at the colour run. They were followed by grade 1 boys and girls, finally rounding out the races with the grade 2 boys and girls. The student leadership team along with Jensen (Grade 4) guided them through the tracks, spurring them on and motivating them through the course offering support and encouragement. They sprinted their hardest giving the absolute best effort. After all the races had been completed one last run for fun with the parents and students combined was run, whether they: walked, sprinted, jogged through the course everyone had a time of their life enjoying every little moment of it smiling and laughing along the way. At the end of the day the winning houses were announced KERR in Red for the preps to 2 races and MILLS in Green for the 3 - 6 races. No matter what place you came, or whether your house won or not, the only thing that matters is that you tried your absolute best and had a great time participating in our 2023 Colour Run! Awesome work MPPS Superstars! Jasmine In the blink of an eye we have reached the end of Term 1 already. What an amazing start to 2023! With the focus for our Health and Physical Education program on Personal and Communal Responsibility, students have posed questions such as "What am I responsible for?" and "How can I help others be responsible?" Activities have included working on skills in Collaboration, Achievement, Responsibility and Empathy which has assisted students explain and understand that responsibilities change with each focus and therefore link not only to sport, but life skills.

A brilliant start to 2023 MPPS! Stay safe and well on your holidays! SUSIE ;) Friday 24th March was National Ride to School Day. National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and was a fantastic morning of fun, riding, scooting or skating to and around Mernda Park. It was where students, teachers and parents shared the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for their Friday morning. Thank you to all of the students, staff and families that participated last week. It was awesome to have so many students support and enjoy physical activity as a group together. Awesome effort everyone!
On Wednesday the 22nd of March, MPPS played a great 3 rounds of lawn bowls. We all had tried our best and had a lot of fun. We came 4th. But that doesn’t matter to us. The schools were nice and we had a wonderful time playing against all their teams. The 1st highlight when we were all playing. 2nd - we all got to have a fun new experience at playing a new sport that the majority of us had never played before. It was impressive that we had been able to hold our own against other teams without practising at all. We are able to look at this experience with joy and pride, we are so thankful for the chance that we got to play and we enjoyed every moment of it.

Jasmine and Helma Mixed Tee Ball When they arrived at Mernda Park Primary, everyone was so excited to play our sixth round of interschool sports for 2023… When we got to the oval we set up the bases and got ready for batting. The other school chose to field first and they were amazing to play against! We were all communicating well with everyone. Even though we were so exhausted, that might have been one of our best games yet. Thank you Whittlesea! Braydon and Hamish Girls Teeball As Whittlesea Primary School walked through our gate our hearts filled with joy. We were so pleased that the Whittlesea team had travelled from Whittlesea to enjoy their morning playing teeball with us. Unfortunately, we lost but we really enjoyed playing against Mernda Primary. We tried our best and the mixed team played really well. It was a lot of fun! Jaidyn BOYS BASKETBALL Today we played Mernda Primary in basketball. We all had fun and did our best. The boys did a great job to fight hard and unfortunately they were too strong, it was 6 to 37. We never gave up hope. We shared the ball around and our passes were great. But sadly you can’t win them all. Jackson GIRLS BASKETBALL First and foremost, today our fellow students had an incredible game with Mernda Primary School. It was an amazing experience playing with other students. Everyone did a great job at showing their CARE values. We all gave each other high fives, as well as cheering on each other with a big smile on our faces. Whenever anyone got a shot, we would give each other high fives as well as saying “Great job”. Mernda Primary School and Mernda Park students would always pass the ball to different students each time. But Mernda Park Primary school got the win by 24 points. To me, it doesn't matter if you win or lose but it matters if you use your kind words and actions and do your best. Sahel MIXED CRICKET Today at cricket we played Donnybrook PS. When we got there we were all set up and ready. We started to warm up so we were ready for the game. It was a bit chilly, but we didn't let that affect us. Everyone got their playing partners. We were all ready to play Dilsher and the other captain played rock, paper, scissors. They ended up winning and chose to bowl. Logan was first on strike and they played really well. After they came off Karl and I went to bat. Sadly we got run out but we batted great. After that it was Hunter and Saiesh that did great with batting. Now it was our turn to field. We got three wickets and our fielding was absolutely amazing. The highlights were Dilsher and Liam getting a 12, 8, 5, 8 and Liam diving to save the ball was fantastic. Saiesh’s wicket keeping was awesome as he was catching everything! Louie GIRLS CRICKET Our game was really good today at Girls Cricket! We won against Donnybrook PS and the scores were 105 and 63. Even though the other team lost, our game was awesome! The highlight of our game was when Trinity caught the ball on the full twice! We got one wicket and some runs. The atmosphere felt very peaceful, but later during the game it got more intense. At the end everyone was a winner and it was a fair game whether we won or lost. Great game girls! Dakota and Helma MIXED TEE BALL As we entered Mernda Primary School, so many smiling faces greeted us. We felt welcomed and passionate that this would be a great game. The atmosphere of the game was thrilling and exciting, encouragement was spread across the field as everyone hit home and batted. The scores were 8-19, but at that point it did not matter, because everyone had such a great game and left MPS feeling cheerful. Congratulations to both teams. Romana and Claudia The Mernda Park Primary School lawn bowls team arrived at Whittlesea Bowls Club to compete against three other schools. We started well, as all of our teams won the 1st round against Whittlesea Primary School. It was challenging as each lawn bowl is weighted differently, making it curve when you roll it straight. It was extremely fun trying out different strength levels with different bowls, attempting to find the right one for each of us. Eventually, after all three rounds, they announced which teams were going to compete in the finals. The first school that got called up was St Mary’s, followed by Mernda Park. The entire team was determined to achieve first place. The round started and teams blue, red and white gave it all they got. Then it was time for the announcement for who came first and second. The team was anticipating every moment, keen of the results. Mernda Park came first!

Ella So far this term, our learning focus has been on Personal and Communal Responsibility when learning in PE. Students have been able to identify the traits, behaviours and qualities that link to how they can do the right thing or how they can encourage others to do the right thing. This has been a great builder on our school CARE values and allowed students to articulate the positive ways that we should interact and behave when we are being physically active. The BIG LESSON that students are beginning to understand is the link between having positive physical activity experiences, with well being and emotions. Students can explain that communication is key to Collaboration and persistence is the key to Achievement. Across the last few weeks of our CARE unit, we will be delving into Responsibility and Empathy and how this relates to our's and others well being. Awesome start MPPS!
